Whoa.

Ok, people.  Someone at Allure has it out for Blake Lively.  How else to explain what might just possibly be the worst magazine cover I have ever seen?

Lest you think I exaggerate, I present you with Exhibit A:

Yikes.

Yikes.

HOLY BAD COVER, BATMAN!

The extreme close-up and the uneven eye makeup = good god, no (!) on so many friggin’ levels.

Yeah, but what about ninjas?

Well, no one can argue that the Obama administration is not a resounding success in at least one area: pirate killing.  Check it out:

Take that, Taft!

MY Inspirational Thought of the Day

Posted in Wintour of Our Discontent on April 9th, 2009 by AJ – 1 Comment

At last night’s Vancouver tour stop, Our Patron Lady of Class, Ms. Britney Spears, ended her show by announcing:

Thank you, Vancouver! You guys have a wonderful night. Drive safe, don’t smoke weed and rock out with your cocks out. Peace motherfuckers!

Truly inspirational. Words to live by. Think I can get that tattooed on my arm? Should I add “Rock out with your cocks out”  to our new “Thought of the Day” feature?

Brit, don’t ever change.

Fox, Ever the Bastion of Good Taste

Posted in Wintour of Our Discontent on April 9th, 2009 by AJ – 3 Comments

Fox, makers of such intellectual fare as The Littlest Groom and When Animals Attack 30, has decided they have a great idea to turn this slow economy into a profitable show:

The network has ordered Someone’s Gotta Go, which will take place in real businesses across America and give employees the power to decide who among them gets fired, Daily Variety reported Wednesday.

“It’s Survivor meets The Office,” Fox reality chief Mike Darnell told Variety.

“When someone is arbitrarily let go the first reaction usually is ‘How come that person was fired when another idiot is still here?’ This finally gives employees a chance to make that decision instead of a boss.”

Yeesh.  Cause destroying lives on national television is so.much.fun! Hell in a handbasket, folks. That’s where we are heading.

Oil Slicks: The New Cleansing Trend

Meet Your New Cleanser

Meet Your New Cleanser

Glancing in my medicine cabinet the other day, I noticed many of my skin-care products, from my facial cleansers to my skin softeners, contain a common ingredient: oil.  Now this may sounds insane coming from a girl who has acne-prone skin, but trust me on this.  The right oil-based product can do a world of wonder for those of us who suffer from problem skin.  From dryness, to controlling oily t-zones, to makeup removal, oil cleansers and moisturizers are the natural cure-all.

The Return of Fallen Soldiers

"The body of U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Phillip A. Myers, of Hopewell, Virginia is transferred upon arrival at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware late on April 5, 2009."

"The body of U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Phillip A. Myers, of Hopewell, Virginia is transferred upon arrival at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware late on April 5, 2009."

I hate to begin the week on a somber note, but I think this is too important not to mention. For the first time in 18 years, the media was allowed to capture the “dignified transfer” of a solider killed in combat as his or her remains are returned the family.  According to the Washington Post:

Air Force Staff Sgt. Phillip A. Myers, 30, of Hopewell, Va., who was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday in the explosion of a makeshift bomb, became the first service member welcomed home publicly in 18 years. Myers, who was attached to the 48th Civil Engineer Squadron based in England, was awarded a Bronze Star last year for his service in Iraq, according to the Air Force.

Myers’s wife and other relatives attended the 17-minute ceremony, which began shortly after 11 last night at the Air Force base. Except for the command “Present Arms,” it was conducted in silence.

“It doesn’t matter what the conditions are like — cold, wet, sunny,” said Sgt. James Rhett of the Army’s Old Guard. “They’re a fallen soldier, and they deserve the highest respect and honor we can give.”

The images are simply incredible.  Alternately beautiful in its pageantry and unbearably heartbreaking, I would argue it is the duty of every American to view these photographs and spend a few moments reflecting on the ideas of duty, honor and service to one’s country.

Living in the Northeast, I find I am largely insulated from the those serving in the Armed Forces and thus have very little sense of the sacrafice these men and woman and their families have made.  This really brought it home, if only for a brief moment.

Z Gallerie: How I Love Thee…

I will take the aqua, please.

I will take the aqua, please.

Ah, the joys of moving.  One week in my new apartment, the couch has arrived.  The TV is installed (my first flat screen!).  My darling, little dining table has arrived.  Every major piece of furniture is arranged, and yet I looked around last night and the place looks…well…bare.  The reason hit me suddenly; in my dash to purchase new furniture, I had forgotten the most important element of redecorating: ACCESSORIES! D’oh!

I need art, vases, pillows, flowers and I need them ASAP people.  I can’t live surrounded by bare, white walls. Fortunately, I just discovered that my favorite West Coast home furnishing store, Z Gallerie, now takes internet orders. Thank.God.

Just Because It’s Friday…

It’s dreary and rainy here in New York, and boy do I need a pick-me-up.  Luckily I came across this image, which instantly brightened my day:

J'taime

C'est Magnifique!

Two beautiful, independent, no-nonsense, fashion-forward women and the men who adore them.  I get tingly just looking at this picture.

Oh, to be Michelle or Carla!  I will just have to admire from afar.

*le sigh*
