Fall Flash
As I mentioned in my fall closet update post, I am allowing myself the frivolity of picking up one sequined piece. Sequins have been in to varying degrees for several seasons now. I’ve been drooling over them in concept, but somehow I’ve managed to make it to this fall without ever getting my fix. Lucky for me, sequins are more fashionable than ever this fall, and the stores are bursting with pieces for every budget. I still haven’t figured out which piece to add to my wardrobe, but my shopping has shown me that there is a lot of really great stuff out there. After the jump, some of this fall’s best options for glitz.
One of the major problems with shopping for sequins is that all that detailing tends to come at a price. A lot of the most gorgeous pieces carry a price tag suggesting that each sequin was sewn on by hand. (Let’s not think about the cost of that Herve Leger number at top.) Thankfully for those of us on a budget, however, Free People has made life easier with a whole slew of sequined pieces this fall, from long tanks to short skirts. Their slip tank, in particular, is available in a whole range of colors, and is only $68. Not too bad for a little piece of special in your fall wardrobe.
Aqua also offers some reasonable options, like this sequined tank dress:
For something with a little more edge, try this mesh-sleeved dress for only $98.
If, on the other hand, you’ve got a little more cash to lay down for the right piece, there is some pretty fabulous stuff out there. My personal feeling is that the most practical way to do sequins is with a sequined top. Wear it with jeans and a leather jacket and you’re good for a night out, wear it with a skirt and you’re good for a holiday party. These are some of my favorites:
If you’re tired of the arguably, practical, however, try these pieces on for size. You may not be able to wear them on a daily basis, but you’re guaranteed to make a splash when you do pull them out.
The options never end. Oh, yes, NOW I remember why I haven’t gotten my sequin fix yet. I couldn’t make up my mind… Hopefully I’ll have better luck this time, because it would be a sin to let this many great pieces slip by! If anyone wants to save me from my indecision (the Gryphon racerback tank? the DVF skirt?), votes are welcomed!
