Fall Closet Overhaul

Just enough hardware for this fall -- from Boutique 9.

Let’s hear it for fall!  The weather has definitively turned, and the fall fashion offerings are reaching dangerous levels of irresistibility.  I mentioned a few months ago the arrival of grey and purple everywhere you looked.  The stores are still bursting with grey and plum, with the result that I am feeling the burning desire to buy grey and … burnt orange.  What can I say? I have a little perverse streak.  Thankfully, J. Crew is encouraging me to get my fix with a slew of jackets in warm coppers and sweaters and tops in peachier hues.

Amazingly enough, all this time on enforced hiatus from online shopping has actually let me give some thought to updating my wardrobe for fall.  Not that I don’t usually make some updates, but the process usually resembles a blackbird piling up shiny objects rather than the organized approach of a methodical mind.  So, here are the basic items I’m looking to buy this season.  First, grey jeans.  The stores are bursting with grey jeans this fall, and I’ve been jonesing for them since last fall.  Practical, stylish, what more can you ask?  Second on the practical list, I’m delighted to see that full length cargo pants are available again after a couple of seasons of absence.   I’ve been waiting to replace my perfect Theory cargo pants for a year and a half now.  Thanks to a recent swing through Olive & Bette, I’m thinking about the Florence pant from Sanctuary – if I can find it in my size in the right color.

On an arguably slightly less practical note, I also feel a pair of boots coming on.  Do I need another pair of boots? Well, no.  But the weather has only to turn cold to make boots start seeming like a really great idea, and this year is no exception.  I’m leaning toward the beauties from Boutique 9 pictured at top, but the season’s over the knee trend is tempting.  More on that later. In a more pure indulgence, I’d also like to get a grey sheath dress.  There are some gorgeous ones out there this season, the most gorgeous of which are – where else? – at Hugo Boss.  Even though I want it as an indulgence, these dresses are great work basics – the kind of dress you’ll get tons of mileage out of.   To spice things up and bring the fun, I’m also allowing myself one frivolous top, one orange item tbd, and one sequined item.

What are your key updates for the fall season?  Stay tuned!  I’ll be posting my favorites in all the above categories… once my computer returns!
