At the time I was short on cash and long on paper. My solution: spray paint. I bought a drab, putty-colored, two-drawer metal filing cabinet off of craigslist for $30. After removing the handles I painted the entire thing white, then painted on a two tone (khaki & black) paisley print using a stencil I bought at a craft store. The final product was super easy to achieve, $45, and awesome; I've had if for four years and still adore it. In fact, it was such a hit that I even painted one for my boyfriend (blue on blue argyle).
