The Best Of The Best: Hair Care

Ahhhhh … Hair. I don’t know a single woman who has mastered the art of making it look good each and every day. After all, it’s the only feature that has its own designated “bad” days (has anyone ever heard of a “bad face day”?). Face it, we’re all on a search for that magic product that will make styling our hair easy.
So, it was with great pleasure that some close friends (and fellow bloggettes) tried out new hair products and gave their opinions on the best for their hair type.
Opinions, after the jump!
Best For Curly Hair
DevaConcepts

Introductory promotion from DevaConcepts: DevaFuser, Universal Adapter and Set It Free
I’ve already done a full review of the product line (you can read it – as well as see before and after pics of my wavy hair here), so I won’t go too into detail now. Suffice it to say that this line really does break the mold on curly hair. Everything from their re-designed DevaFuser (pictured above) to the brand’s much beloved Mist-er Right multi-tasking product. For more, check out DevaConcepts.com.
Best For Fine Hair
Tie: Sally Hershberger Professional Hair Care Shampoo and Conditioner, Bumble & bumble Hair Powder

Sally Hershberger Shampoo
Finding shampoos and conditioners for fine hair is a real challenge – not only do they have to adequately clean and condition hair, they have to leave minimal residue on the hair shaft, to avoid weighing down locks. This line, by celebrity stylist Sally Hershberger, does the job better than many super pricey brands.
The clear shampoo (here’s a hint: unless you have super damaged or textured hair, always buy the clearest shampoo you can find) gently cleanses, while the shampoo manages to not only detangle and add shine, but rinses cleanly. Both have the brand’s Super Volumizing Complex, and – best of all – are safe for color treated hair. Hurrah! $9.50 each at SallyHershberger.com.

Bb. hair powder is available in gray, blonde, red, brown and blac
We’ve covered Bb Hair Powder before (in a post about coping with female hair loss), but it’s a product worth praising again. The powder (which is delivered via a foolproof aesorol spray) instantly makes hair look thicker, but has the added advantage of being available in different colors – making it more user friendly than the all-white powders that are available elsewhere. $35 at BumbleandBumble.com.
Best For Dry to Very Dry Hair AND Best Multi-Tasker
Ojon Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Cleanser and Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Conditioner

A great offering from one of my all time favorite brands, Ojon, this multi-tasker cleanser (which can be used on face, hair and body) and conditioner (again, perfect for face, hair and body) boasts a 98 percent natural and completely sulfate-free formulation, and is absolutely packed with anti-oxidants and vitamins. In fact, the rare cacao found in each of these bottles contains the anti-oxidant equivalent of 125 pounds of bluberries!
Ultimately, the most important thing is how well the formula works, and this turned extremely parched hair into soft, shiny silk. $32 each at Ojon.com.
Best For Damaged Hair
ApHogee

We highlight, color, straighten, curl, perm and abuse our hair. And while some girls seem blessed with hair that could withstand a lightening attack, others have locks that are quick to show breakage, split ends and other signs of damage. Luckily, hair care line ApHogee boasts a HUGE collection of products (the entire line is pictured above) to help repair strands – each better than the last.
Unlike other products that are supposedly for “damaged” hair, this line doesn’t just mask the problem – it helps fix it, restoring the cuticle of each strand so hair feels soft and, well, perfectly undamaged. The exclusive PropHytamine Complex utilizes precise levels of proteins, silicones, botanicals, vitamins and anti-oxidants to restore hair to its former glory. Check out the whole collection at ApHogee.com.
Best For UV Protection
L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime

If you spend a lot of time in the sun (like I do – I prefer my runs be outdoors), you know that UV rays can wreck as much havoc on your hair as they do on your face. In fact, the damage can be worse – because hair does not have self healing properties, damage is permanent.
Thankfully, this L’Oreal collection features products for before, during and after sun exposure. Each product features a hair-specfic UV shield, which helps build UV tolerance with every use (even the rinse-out products, like shampoo, provide additional protection with each application).
The collection features the following products:
- L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime Shampoo
- L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime Masque
- L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime Leave-In Spray
- L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime Leave-In Gelée
The collection is $21 to $30, at LorealProfessionnel.com.
Best Volume Booster
Peter Lamas Chinese Herbs Revitalizing Nutrient Mist
This mist is a vitamin-enriched product designed specifically to provide body, bounce and shine. Perfect for those with thinning or thin hair, this mist is also vegan and environmentally friendly. $20 at Drugstore.com.
Best Glaze
John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze

This product is a modern classic – the glaze gives the same results as a professional glaze, for a portion of the price (not to mention the ability to apply it in the comfort of your own shower). The clear version locks in recent color, prolonging the life of your hue, while the colored varieties boost the vibrancy and depth of hair color. Strands are left silky and shiny. JohnFrieda.com.
Best Frizz Fighter
Living Proof No Frizz Straight Making Spray
My co-blogger AJ is a die-hard fan of this product, and actually wrote a very lengthy review (you can read it here), so I won’t go into too much detail. But suffice it to say: if you battle frizz, you must try this. LivingProof.com for more info.

Living Proof forever!
Actually, I’m not at all sure I’m not having a bad face day today to go with my bad hair day!
It’s all giving me a bad temper day. I definitely swear by the John Frieda glaze though — there’s no way I could keep my highlights going without it.
