Bright, sassy, and perfect! From Shoshanna.

Happy Memorial Day!

While it isn’t officially summer yet and frankly, I don’t anticipate braving the waters around here any time soon, today still marks the beginning of the season of barbecues, picnics, and trips to the beach!  I have to admit, I managed to miss the entire beach season last year, so my bikini had to content itself with a couple of long weekends floating around in the pool.  I’m hoping to do better this year, though, so I’m turning my eye to finding the perfect suit to take me to the beach.

Fashion Predictions From The 1930s

Posted in Pint of Lagerfeld on May 24th, 2009 by Lily – Be the first to comment

This clip remains one of my favorites – the fashions are great (and in some cases, shockingly good predictions; in other cases, just shockingly funny), but my favorite is the 1930s newscaster narrator.  WHY is that no longer the standard method of on-air delivery?

Today’s Object of Lust, Or, Mmmm, Escada

I think this pretty much speaks for itself:

I don’t need this dress.  I can’t afford this dress.  I don’t even live a life where I have enough cocktail dress occasions to wear all of my existing cocktail dresses.  But… yum.

Ah, Summer In Jersey

Posted in Jersey on May 22nd, 2009 by Lily – 2 Comments

Having lived in Jersey for almost a decade, I’ve spent many a summer weekend “down the shore.”  And, given my penchant for all things campy, it should come as no surprise that I’m thoroughly amused by the BENNYs that gravitate to the shore every summer.

BENNYs would stand for “Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, New York” – in other words, all of the North Jersey Guidos who make the pilgrimidge down to Seaside, Wildwood or Belmar to spend the weekend.

You know, the guy best personified by Tommy from MTV True Life: I Have A Summer Share.  Enjoy this classic tale of love, partying and cheeseballs – Jersey style:

The Best Of The Memorial Day Sales

Wherever this is, I want to be there

Wherever this is, I want to be there

It’s Memorial Day!

Editor’s note: Before I dive in, I’d like to point out that Memorial Day is, in fact, a day to honor those who have died while serving in the US military.  So as you go about with your plans – and by all means, you should enjoy the weekend – please do take a moment to reflect on this.

So, yes, Memorial Day!  Synonymous with summer, the beach, a three day weekend, barbecues … And (if you’re someone after my own heart), outrageous sales!  A round-up of some of the best sales, after the jump.

A Personal Rant… On The Subject Of Shoes

Posted in Pint of Lagerfeld, Wintour of Our Discontent on May 22nd, 2009 by Kai – 14 Comments

I have a horrifying confession. I may be the only person on the planet who feels this way.  Or just the only person under the age of 70.  I realize that this may make me a traitor to my generation, and possibly also a curmudgeon waiting to happen the second I turn 40.  I can’t help it.  Here it is:

I.  Hate.  Flip Flops.

Just In Time For Beach Reading Season!

Posted in Et alia on May 21st, 2009 by Lily – 1 Comment

topbanner_penguinlogoGranted, this list is a few years old, but I hadn’t seen it before so I’m captivated.  Broken into categories like “best adultery,” “best debauchery,” “best laughs,” “best action”"best rebel,” the list really does cover a huge amount literature.

How many of the Best Books Ever Written (as compiled by Penguin Classics) have you read?  Actually, scratch that.  How many do you want to read?

Editor’s Note: Apologies – for some reason, the layout of the list got all wonky, and refused to cooperate.  Please click the link above to see it.

Panties & Polish: Hanky Panky & Essie Team Up

hanky-panky-logo-1

It’s no secret that women have a weird relationship with underwear: we want it to look nice, but be comfortable.  It needs to be lacy and little, stay in place and prevent panty lines.  And that’s just panties – our list of necessities is much longer when it comes to shapewear (like Spanx).

But the pay off that comes with a great pair of undies is undeniable: we feel supported and comfortable, yet sexy and powerful.  It doesn’t matter if the only person who sees me in my thong is my cat (who appears to be more confused by my lack of fur than anything else) – I still strut a bit when I’m wearing my power panties … More than a few pairs of which are from Hanky Panky.  I love the brand’s low rise thongs (a must when you’re 5’2 – regular panties end up coming up to my bra), available in comfy lace fabric.

So imagine my delight when I found out that my power panty brand of choice has teamed up with my pedicure polish brand of choice, Essie (makers of the delightful Ballet Slippers and carefree Bike Ride, among other dazzling hues).

Details of how you can score two Hanky Panky panties and a matching Essie polish, after the jump!

Old Navy Deal: $1 Flip Flops

Posted in Pint of Lagerfeld on May 21st, 2009 by Lily – 1 Comment

God, I love Old Navy.  They are so great for budget-friendly basics and beach wear (dresses, cover ups and swim wear).  I always make it a point to get a pair of flip flops from them every Summer, so you can bet I’ll be there this Saturday to pick up a pair for just $1!

Online Shopping Roundup, Part 3: Jewelry

This week’s installment in our online shopping roundup brings us to jewelry. This, admittedly, is one of my big weaknesses.  I looove jewelry, and I particularly love interesting design.  The online stores I’m going to share with you today aren’t the place that you go to for a pair of nice diamond studs.  Yes, they’re classics, but that doesn’t require a store to have an eye for design, just a jeweler with an understanding of the four C’s and a good source for diamonds.  If you’re looking for that kind of thing, you can get it readily enough at Blue Nile or one of the other obvious vendors.  What I’m talking about here is places that will have jewelry that’s interesting, that not only will look good on you, but may be a conversation piece at a cocktail party (and not that “Wow, that stone is huge!” conversation we’ve all heard after someone gets engaged), and that frankly, is enjoyable to look at for its own merits. After the jump, some of the best places to look.
