Betsy’s Spring Wardrobe Update: Pants!

Subtly striped and completely summery. From Theory.

Folks, we have finally come to the end of the line for Betsy’s spring wardrobe update.  We’ve done flats, wedges, and summer cover-ups (cardigans and jackets).  Betsy’s last request for her update was spring/summer pants.  Inspired by the terrific (one might almost say scorching) weather this weekend, we’ve gone a little beyond just spring pants and included bottoms that will take us into summer.

First up, warm weather pants.  For wearing to work, nothing beats crisp white or cool cream in the summer.  The Theory pair above are totally work-appropriate, with low-key stripes that soften the color a little.  The great pair from Alice & Olivia below are clean and modern with a nice wide waistband if you’re bold enough to go for a real white.

Does it get any more summery than white pants?

I’m admittedly… reserved about capri pants.  There are so many ways that cropped pants can go wrong (*cough* harem pants! *cough*) that I am reluctant to recommend them.  That said, though, cropped cargo pants are the perfect casual wear for warm weather.  Here are a couple of pairs that I liked.

And last but not least, shorts.  While I admittedly am a sucker for skirts, a good-looking pair of shorts can be far more convenient in certain circumstances.  If you have a casual or fashionable workplace, and you pick the right pair, you might even be able to wear them to work!  Here are a couple of pairs of shorts that are cool but look put together.

These pairs, on the other hand, might be a little too short for even a casual office, but would be just right for brunch at a sidewalk cafe or a picnic in the Park:

Love the Alice & Olivia pair … you know, I am intrigued by the work-appropriate shorts concept. They look so nice on the models, but feel like these could very easily be unflattering if you’re not careful.

The lucky cropped cargos, on the other hand, are super useful all summer long …

I think the key is getting the right cut — you just need to make sure the leg isn’t too narrow for your hips. You don’t want to do superskinny unless you’re tall and thin, but a nice clean straight leg will work on most people.
