A Sparkling New Wine/Vodka Hybrid

A Nuvo Cocktail
Since I grew up in a house that believed in cocktail hour, I continue to believe that a drink at the end of the night is a grownup, refined tradition. It’s something I’m loath to give up, even for my oft-mentioned diet.
Having spent years behind the bar, I’ve sampled all sorts of different liquors – and am a steadfast vodka/wine/sparkling wine type of gal (and if you mix any or all of the above with fruit, I’ll be your BFF). I’ll make a foray into rum or tequila if need be, but kindly keep all whiskey and gin away from me.
When I saw Nuvo on my liquor store shelf, the only thing I could think was “gimme, gimme, gimme.” The liquor bills itself as “vodka and a small amount of delicate French sparkling wine … blended with natural fruit nectar to achieve a harmonious balance.” Reading on, I found that it’s infused with raspberry, peach and strawberry.
It was fate. I had to have it.
So I bought it, and am now petitioning my local congresswoman to make it possible for adults to marry their (consenting) liquor of choice.
Seriously, the stuff is THAT good. And I’m not the only one who thinks so – the liquor counts Bridget Moynahan, Gabrielle Union, Brooke Shields, Kim Kardashian, Jamie Foxx, and Ludacris as celebrity fans.
Even better, its a rare drink that’s perfect for both brunch and an evening out. Bartenders I’ve talked to recommend the following drinks:
Springtime Martini
1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz. peach nectar
Splash of lime juice
Top with 1 oz. Nuvo
Serve in a martini glass, garnish with fresh lemonNuvo Bellini
3 oz. Nuvo
1/2 oz. Peach nectar
Serve in a champagne fluteNuvo Kiss
3 oz Nuvo
Top with champagne
Garnish with muddled strawberries
Serve in a champagne flute
Or, you could try it the way I liked it – chilled, in a champagne flute.
Na zdrowie, lovelies. Or salut, or cheers, or whatever you prefer.
