Spring Lip Gloss Series: Get Your Flirt! On
Disclaimer: lest you think Lily and I are shilling for Flirt!, let me assure you our back-to-back reviews were written independently and are a happy coincidence. I just logged on to post my review, and here I see my fellow blogger has beaten me to the punch! Great minds, after all. With that out of the way, on to our regularly scheduled programming…
So in case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t watched the news, read a paper, visited a website or talked to another human being during the past year, the economy is stinking right now. Big shocker, I know! How is the economy effecting this Femme? While I used to love having the freedom to drop 30 bucks on an impulse Sephora purchase, those days are loooooooong gone. Like most people in America, I’m cutting back on frivolous spending and tightening my purse strings.
Ok, enough of the gloom and doom. It’s time for the silver lining. Rather than wave goodbye to fun, new products forever, I’m determined to make some limoncello martinis out of lemons, ladies. This is an opportunity to find fun, affordable options that fit within out budgets.
Enter Flirt!
Sold at Kohl’s department stores, Flirt! boasts a full line of boldly-colored lip, cheek, eye and face options in at some seriously budget-conscious price points. Seriously, I scoured their website and couldn’t find anything for more than $13. Score!
My favorites:
Flirt! Plushious Liquid Velvet Lipcolor in Silk Slip ($12) – In both color and texture, it’s a dead ringer for the ever-classic Petal Pink The Makeup Lip Gloss from Shiseido ($21). Like Shiseido’s Petal Pink, Flirt’s version is a universally flattering soft, sheer, rose-pink with a hint of gold sparkle. The texture is creamy and smooth, not sticky, and has surprisingly good staying power.
For those who like their glosses with a bit more color and texture “oomph,” check out the Squeeze Me Super Shiny Lipgloss (on sale for $9.99!). I was immediately drawn to two shockingly magenta shades – Grape Cooler (purple undertones) and Mighty Aphrodite (think neon pink). While these shades are definitely not for the faint of heart, I think would stand up beautifully on olive and dark skin tones as a bright, cheery pop of color on the lips with a minimal eye. The Squeeze Me Glosses are tackier than their Plushious counterparts; think along the lines of M.A.C Lipglass.
Let me know if you give either one a try. I will try and snap some pics of me in both glosses tomorrow.
Enjoy!
