Understated, But Completely Unforgettable (And A Beauty Tip At The End!)
There are very few traditionally “girly” things that I’m not a fan of. In fact, there are just three: the color pink (I can only handle the color if it’s light enough, but not so light that it qualifies as pastel), Hello Kitty (once you know the definition of “puberty” (whether or not you’ve been through it), you’re too old for this character) and perfume.
Yes, perfume. Finding a new scent is my own version of the mythical Sisyphean task. I don’t like fruity or floral scents, and cannot stand musky or heavy scents. God help the neutral versions that abound (I do not want to smell like grass or someone’s idea of “fire” – my Walgreens-purchased Tide laundry detergent is better, IMO).
Because of this, my perfume collection is Kate Moss thin: I wear Nanette Lepore’s Shanghai Butterfly during the winter and Bobbi Brown Beach in the summer. That said – happy day! – I think I may finally be able to add a new fragrance to my rotation:

Tom Ford White Patchouli
Full disclosure: I smelled this by accident. I hate flowers (the “white”) and, dear GOD, the smell of patchouli makes me stabby.
Yet, somehow, the woodsy and incense notes temper the patchouli, while the few floral scents I like (such as jasmine and rose) combine for an overall warm, fresh, unforgettable fragrance. Like that mythical “good guy with an edge” (c’mon, ladies, we’re all looking for him), this comes on a bit strong at first but mellows out very quickly – within 20 minutes, actually.
But don’t take my word for it – try it for yourself. You can find the info at Sephora.com, but frankly, you can also walk into any Sephora store and ask for a tester of it. The sales girls will happily give you a vial that has enough of the perfume in it for you to wear it over the course of a week – all you need do is make the request.

Oooh, I have the same problem. Most perfumes are way too heavy and headache inducing for me- I don’t know what it is.
For being an avid lover of all things Nanette Lepore, I’ve yet to smell her perfumes. I keep meaning to do that when I’m in Sephora, but then I get distracted by all of the 2309473092874209 other products in there. Hee.
I too like a nice subtle scent but always worry about becoming a migraine inducing nuisance to my unsuspecting neighbors. As for laundry detergents, I’m a big fan of Fab. A lot of bang for the buck…
Love me some Tom Ford. I wear the Voile de Fleur version…
