A Confession… And An Obsession
Ladies, I have a confession. I have a sweet tooth. I would take the stereotypical route and say that I have a sweet tooth the size of China, but really, I’m not sure that’s an adequate description for the magnitude of my sweet tooth. If I am to be perfectly honest, my sweet tooth is more like Jupiter. It hasn’t quite reached critical mass for fusion yet, but it ain’t that far either. Before moving to New York, I satisfied the monster by baking a lot and having the occasional box of Godiva truffles, but while I still bake, New York has ruined me for lesser chocolate. There are at least a dozen spectacular chocolate shops around here, and I have made it my mission to find and sample them all.
And so, I’d like to share with you my latest obsession, Jacques Torres’ chocolate covered cornflake clusters. This? This is breakfast food done right. (I know this for a fact, as I had one with breakfast this morning.) I picked them up on a whim when I was in the Jacques Torres boutique on Hudson, which somehow managed to be “on the way” to somewhere unspecified. To be perfectly honest, I bought them only because I was amused at the idea of them — dark chocolate on cornflakes? — and wasn’t really expecting anything particularly spectacular.
I am ashamed to admit how wrong I was. These things are terrific. The combination of great quality dark chocolate with the crunch and balancing corn sweetness of the cornflakes is addictive to a horrifying degree. Buy some. You will find yourself tossing them back like popcorn at a movie. A bag sells for only $5, which for chocolate of this caliber is really not bad, but I guarantee you you will want more than one bag. I am making free use of it to bribe our technical admin into doing web design work, so far with excellent results. If you need to buy your way into someone’s good graces, I highly recommend them as an opening salvo.
There will be more terrific chocolate to come (no fear, ladies, I am prepared to sacrifice myself to science in this regard), but in the mean time, check it out. I’ll be back later. Once I’ve eaten the rest of this bag.

one question: when am i coming over to sample these?
If you want any of the two bags I bought yesterday to still be here, it had better be soon!
